Congrats! I’ll be going through a similar process on the Cougar soon.

Awesome Cougar! I’m going to enjoy the Fiat for a bit, but some classic American muscle is next up on my project car list, I think. They seem to be a little undervalued after the market crash of their prices a few years ago; especially the lesser known marques. Good luck on the rebuild— at least you’ll have a lot more room to work with on the front suspension with the standard control arm and strut setup— I’ll bet with some research you could convert it to the Shelby GT 350 setup.

Hopefully I can get the camber set with a couple shims— that was a problem pre-rebuild. Also, I’ll have to see how it settles out— I may want to go back in and cut the springs to get a 1.5" drop in the front and inch or so in the rear. If I end up tracking the car I might go back in and fab up a watts linkage to replace the panhard rod...

Thanks! Can’t wait to finish the paint work— everyone on the road will be assuming I’m the richest bastard out there— when really, their car is probably worth 40K more... pre-Miata roadsters really hit above their weight class in the looks department, especially the Italians with their Bertones and Pininfarinas...

I’ve been shooting for end of July for a first drive— looks like I might hit the goal!

I will start crossing fingers for you!

I have to admit i’m starting to get the want for a Tr6 or a 124

Yeah, I really like the look of the Triumphs too. Especially the Spitfire. That might be the best looking of the bunch. Not sure how far I’m going to take this Fiat project— with the 8.1:1 compression, if the motor is solid, I may be tempted to go forced induction >=)

Cool. I’ve gone the roadster route, too. I had a ‘79 MGB I went through about 15 years ago. It was a fun little car. It eventually overheated to the point of requiring a rebuild (piston 1 was fully fused to the cylinder wall). I had it enjoyed it for 3 years at that point and decided to move on to another car.

I do plan on the Shelby drop in the front...should be fun once I get to dive into it!

Awesome, a Cougar with a Track Mustang heart... should be a blast— and a ton of noise! Once I finish this I’m going to see if I can steal my dad’s 330 F85 for a few years, motor is in great shape— prob good for 350 with a good set of cams; and would look great about 2" lower with a dark paint coat and window tint. Plus, old school American V8s are just cool— pathetic brakes and all.

Looks fantastic! I’m very jealous :) my Spit hasn’t rolled on anything other than a 4x2 dolly I made for a good 2 years now.

Not far though! Really not far :)

Thanks, it’s coming along! I’m on to trying to get her to start up again now— apparently 4 months was a little too long to go without a courtesy start. That moment you take the wheels off or put it on blocks is a scary one— will this ever return to the ground? Can’t believe I’m finally there.

Bottom of the Spit is looking good, at least you’ll be 100% rust free; I’m putting off the underbody and floorboard work for now, but I’ll be there eventually...

I’d hope i’d be 100% rust free!

It's not too bad actually :) it's a bit liberating being able to do work where no'one will see it!
